Just a few weeks ago, the British government passed a controversial bill into law that enables same-sex couples to be considered the legal parents of a child produced through fertility treatment. Clinics are no longer required to consider a child's emotional need for a supporting father for women seeking to have a child through IVF. A child created under such conditions is now able to have two males or two females listed on their birth certificate as their parents. Other amendments to the Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill granted permission for scientists to create human embryos using animal eggs for stem-cell research. Unfortunately this bill is only the latest in a long line of immoral laws that have been passed by the Labour government. Last year we had the Sexual Orientation Regulations, which make it illegal to discriminate against a person on the grounds of sexual orientation. As a result of that legislation, many Catholic adoption agencies were forced to close their doors, rather than face the prospect of having to place children in such an environment. The previous year, the Labour government forced through legislation legalizing same-sex unions, despite a majority in this country being opposed to such laws. This latest bill was passed with quite a large majority, and very few MPs were prepared to speak out against it. One of the MPs who were prepared to stand up for what is right was Iris Robinson, Northern Ireland Health Minister. She is a born again Christian and member of the Democratic Unionist Party. She said members of parliament ought to "hang their heads in shame" for "facilitating immorality", and asked them, "Can you envisage down the road a child going to primary school and being collected by two females or two males and the bullying and the abuse that these children will be exposed to?" Unfortunately her words fell on deaf ears and the bill was passed into law. But her outspokenness has not done her any favours. A few weeks ago she was interviewed on radio about her views on homosexuality. She said that homosexuality is an "abomination" according to the Bible. She explained that the Bible teaches us to love the sinner and hate the sin, but it seems that this explanation was not good enough for some activists, who have now made an official complaint with the police and are seeking her resignation. Iris believes she has been the victim of a "witch hunt", and that certainly appears to be the case.

Unfortunately Iris Robinson is not the first MP to fall victim to this new homosexual legislation that being passed down from Europe. And she certainly won't be the last. This news makes me extremely angry, that a God-fearing, law-abiding Christian can be criminalized by unjust and immoral laws. We do have a duty to uphold the laws of the land, but not when they are in opposition to God's law. Satan is seeking to find an occasion against the Christians of this country. And just as in Daniel's day, he realizes that he will not find any accusation against us, except he finds it concerning the law of our God (Daniel 6:4-5). May the Lord help us to remain strong in these dark days.

Acts 5:27-29
And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
