| "So He said, 'Come.' And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, 'Lord, save me!' " - Matthew 14:29, 30
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily ensnares, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." - Hebrews 12:1, 2
When we honestly examine our walk of faith in the Christian life, what answer would each of us give? Peter believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah and the Son of God for whom Israel had waited many centuries. He witnessed the Lord perform mighty miracles, works unlike anything ever seen or heard before.
When Peter saw Jesus walking on the water, he too stepped out and walked upon the waves at the Lord’s command. But the moment he turned his eyes from Jesus to the threatening storm around him, he began to sink. Yet even then, the Lord reached out His hand and saved him.
How often we resemble Peter, overwhelmed by the circumstances around us, sinking under pressures, fears, and distractions. The lesson remains timeless: we must keep our eyes fixed on the Lord Jesus always. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. He has already overcome the world, and in Him we will find victory.
Let us walk with steady hearts, looking unto Jesus.
