"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." - Matthew 26:41 "But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." - Romans 8:9 We dwell in a body still marked by sin. Our flesh pulls us toward evil desires, lust, and covetousness, and we continually feel the tension between the impulses of the flesh and the witness of our conscience. Unless we are led by the Holy Spirit, the desires of the flesh will inevitably prevail. This is the condition of all who remain outside of the Lord Jesus Christ. But once we receive Christ, we are no longer governed by the flesh but by the Spirit. This does not mean that believers never sin or cannot be tempted; rather, the Holy Spirit guides us, convicts us, and turns our affections toward the things of Christ. And when we do fall short, God remains faithful and just to forgive us our sins as we confess them in genuine repentance. Though sin carries earthly consequences, the believer has been redeemed from its eternal penalty once and for all through the finished work of Christ on the cross. One day, we will be freed from this body of sin and clothed in eternal glory. Until that blessed day, let us yield ourselves to the Spirit and walk in the Spirit, living for the glory of Christ. Praise the Lord!
