"Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth" - Deuteronomy 28 V1

"...Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. In the day of trial in the wilderness." - Hebrews 3 V7

Just like parents teach their children to be obedient, similarly God commands His children to be obedient to Him. By being obedient to God will keep us away from trouble, and from the traps of Satan. Obey the Lord and draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. Trust in Him and lean not on your own understanding.
