Tensions are increasing in the Middle East, as President Bush has decided to increase the US military presence in the region. George Bush stated that his aim is to send a warning message to President Ahmadinejad that the West is serious about Iran's nuclear programme. Yesterday Ahmadinejad claimed Iran was now a nuclear power, and told Iranians to expect a "nuclear victory" very soon.

Quote: "During a speech delivered in the Western Iranian province of Javanroud, Ahmadinejad said: " The Islamic Republic of Iran is now a nuclear power, thanks to the hard work of the Iranian people and authorities." The announcement of Iran as a "nuclear power" is bound to significantly escalate tensions between the West and Iran, and marks a dramatic stage in the Islamic Republic's nuclear campaign.

But for an Iranian President that thrives on confrontation, President Bush's "message" is unlikely to have the intended effect. Today Ahmadinejad warned that it will be the US, Britain and Israel that will soon "disappear", not Iran. Once again the Iranian nation slammed Israel over Olmert's admission that Israel has nuclear weapons, and demanded that if Israel refused to allow UN inspectors to view their facilities, that diplomatic or military action should be taken.

Quote: ""The aggressive forces will vanish, while the Iranian people will survive - since all who chose God will survive and those who distance themselves from God vanish like Pharaoh," said Ahmadinejad in his speech. "The US, Britain, and the Zionist regime will vanish since they have distanced themselves from God. This is a divine promise," he added.

While the US and Britain certainly have distanced themselves from God and will be judged, the Divine promise that the land of Israel was given to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for an eternal inheritance, cannot be broken. For this reason, when Ahmadinejad and his Russian and Islamic cohorts mount an invasion of the Holy Land, in spite of Israel's waywardness God's wrath will come up in his face and He will defend Israel for His own name's sake.

Exodus 32:9-14
And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it [is] a stiffnecked people: Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit [it] for ever. And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

Ezekiel 38:18,23
And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, [that] my fury shall come up in my face... Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I [am] the LORD.
