The Equality and Human Rights Commission, a publicly-funded body that was set up by the UK government to address human rights issues, has published a new report recommending that the devolved Scottish administration recognize homosexual and lesbian 'marriage'. Following the passing of the Equality Bill in the House of Lords last year, the British government proposed to review legislation pertaining to the Civil Partnership Act, which offers legal recognition for homosexual and lesbians. The Equality Bill, which seeks to protect individuals from discrimination in a number of different areas including sexual orientation and marriage, could end up paving the way for homosexuals and lesbians to become legally 'married' in the eyes of the state. Civil partnerships were first introduced into this country in 2007 to allow homosexuals to register with the state and receive privileges normally reserved for married couples. But the new equality legislation means that the state cannot 'discriminate' against homosexuals and lesbians by refusing to permit them to 'marry'.

Quote: "‘There have been big improvements in the treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the past 20 years, but we remain the only group of people banned from marrying. We only have the choice of civil partnership, which was introduced to mark us out as not worthy of marriage itself. The same choices should be available to all couples, mixed-sex and same-sex’.

Unfortunately there seem to be certain individuals within the Equality and Human Rights Commission who are actively pursuing a homosexual agenda. Recent statements by the organization, for example in regards to its involvement in the Johns' case in which a Christian couple were forbidden from adopting children because of their views on homosexuality, have been overtly anti-Christian. One of those in charge of the sexual orientation divisions in the commission is Angela Mason, a former director of Stonewall UK, a organization that seeks to silence all those who hold a contrary view on homosexuality. Stonewall recently brought legal action against a Christian couple who run a guesthouse in their own home. The couple's policy was that nobody outside of a marriage relationship, including their own daughter and her boyfriend, should be able to share a bed. The couple received a phone call from Stonewall telling them that they were breaking the law by discriminating against homosexuals. A few weeks later, Steven Preddy phoned to book accommodation for himself and a partner, without revealing their sexual orientation to the couple. When the two men arrived at the door, the policy was explained and they were offered separate rooms. The homosexuals sued the Christian couple in court, and with the backing of the EHRC, were awarded £3600 in damages. Just a few weeks ago, the EHRC again sought increased compensation for the two men because leniency was shown by the judge to the Christian couple because of their beliefs, and the body supposedly sought clarification of the law as to whether the Christian couple's beliefs should be taken into consideration at all. But their appeal was later withdrawn, citing an 'error of judgement'.

Who would have thought that one day Christians might be persecuted in this country because of their refusal to condone immorality? And in the United Kingdom, a supposedly Christian country? But these are the days that the Lord prophesied would come shortly before His return (Luke 17:28-29). Again Paul also foretold that in the last days, perilous times would come, when men would be "false accusers, incontinent (lacking self-restraint), fierce, despisers of those that are good", 2nd Timothy 3:1. As you can see, we are now living in the last days. Soon the Lord Jesus Christ will return, to take all those who have trusted in Him for salvation, to be with Him where He is (John 14:3). And then He will return in judgement upon this wicked world (Acts 17:31). I think there will be many people in that day whom the world would uphold as being champions of human rights, who shall receive condemnation for their unlawful deeds according to the law of God. It's one thing to be found innocent by man according to his law, but who shall be able to stand before the Judge of all the earth? Praise God that He has provided a way whereby His banished be not expelled from Him (2nd Samuel 14:14). "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved", John 3:17. Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross for you so that your sin could be forgiven (Isaiah 53:6). He bore God's punishment for your sin and all who believe on Him for salvation shall have everlasting life (John 3:16). Turn away from your sins and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation today.
