|If Javier Solana, the High Representative for the European Common, Foreign and Security Policy, is not the Antichrist, he is certainly doing his best to make the coming Antichrist's job as easy as possible. Solana met with President Bashar Assad today, after two years of political isolation following the murder of Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri. France's President Jacques Chirac had vetoed contacts with Syria after the assassination, but gave the go ahead for Solana to meet with Assad. Solana for his part urged the Syrian President to do more to clamp down on arms smuggling to terrorist groups operating in Lebanon, but in regards Israel seems Solana has taken it upon himself to personally mediate between the two countries. |
Quote: ""We would like to work as much as possible to see your country Syria recuperate the territory taken in 1967," Javier Solana told a joint news conference with Foreign Minister Walid al-Moualem. Syria has made it clear that its cooperation to help end violence in Iraq was tied to Western, especially US, backing for its peaceful campaign to regain the Golan Heights, which Israel occupied during the Middle East war four decades ago.
I don't think Israel will be overly impressed with Solana's remarks. What right has he got to go to Syria, a state which refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist, and start dictating the terms of peace? Syria should be the one seeking peace from Israel, not the other way around. He also seems to be advocating the division of the land without regarding Israel's security arrangements.
What does Israel get out of this deal? Perhaps very little. As the article states, the reason why the Western world is backing the ceding of the Golan to Syria is because they want Assad to support them in Iraq. And the Bible states that during the tribulation period, the Antichrist himself will divide the land of Israel, once again for his own advantage.
