My friend Michael Jamison has created a new website for his Christian songs. Michael preaches the Word of God on the streets, and writes and records his own Christian songs, which he records on CD and gives to people free of charge. I uploaded a few of his songs for you to listen to last year, some of my favourites are "Beautiful Jesus", "Woe is me" and "The sign". He has created a new website, where he has uploaded many of his songs for the encouragement of believers, and to help spread the gospel through music. You can visit his website here.

EU leaders agree compromise on "treaty" PDF Print E-mail

European Union leaders reached a compromise deal late last night, regarding the draft of the new "Constitution". The document, which has been rebranded a "reform treaty", will see several major changes in the way the EU operates. Sixteen European states have already ratified the original EU Constitution, but votes against the document from France and the Netherlands - two of first member states of the EEC, cast doubt over whether it could become legally recognized throughout Europe. Poland and the United Kingdom had serious objections to the new treaty. Poland, one of the lowest populated states in the EU, disagreed with new voting regulations which could weaken its position in Europe. Britain argued that the new post of EU Foreign Minister could threaten the independence of British foreign policy. European leaders agreed on a phased implementation of the new voting laws, and changed the title of the new EU Foreign Minister to "High Representative for Foreign Policy", lowering its status on the world stage. European leaders have until 2009 - when the next European elections take place, to ratify the new "treaty".

Quote: "The new figure would combine the positions now held by foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who reports to EU governments and does mostly crisis management, and External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who controls the European Commission's aid budget and external relations staff. Both of their terms expire in 2009, when the reform treaty would come into force, provided EU leaders agree on other, more difficult issues such as the voting system in decision making.

The questions remains, will Javier Solana be the one to take this new post? He had already been slated to take the post, when the new EU treaty comes into effect. He isn't getting any younger, but I do believe he has made a good job of it, negotiating with Iran on behalf of the Six Nations, etc. I think EU leaders would be loathed to let him go that easily. Of course we do not know who the Antichrist is, nor do I believe we will know (2nd Thessalonians 2:6-8). At least perhaps not until that day when we, with the Lord Jesus Christ, shall return to earth after the tribulation period, and the Antichrist and False Prophet are taken and cast alive into the lake of fire.

Zechariah 14:4-5
And his (Jesus Christ's) feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye (Israel) shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

1st Thessalonians 3:13
To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

Guidelines on how news should be submitted PDF Print E-mail

Del.icio.us!

This is just a brief outline on how news articles should be submitted to the website.

Links

If you are planning to submit an article, and do not wish to write your own comments on it, write just one or two lines summarizing its content in the top box, with one of the main words in your summary linked to the article itself. Do not post the entire article on the site, as I'm not entirely sure about whether this infringes on copyright or not. I also think the site be given more to the explanation of news events in light of the Scriptures, rather than just what is currently happening in the world. It's the Word of God that is alive and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword.

Commentaries

Layout

If you are planning to write your own comments on the article, write it all in the intro text box (the content of this is displayed on the front page). Do not use the bottom text box. Text in the bottom box is not displayed on the front page, instead a "read more" link will appear at the bottom of the article. Distinguish your comments from quotations from the article. I do this using the word "quote", and putting the quotation in italics.

Begin with an introduction to the event in question, e.g. what has happened, when it happened, where it happened, why it happened, etc. Follow that with a more detailed quote from the article outlining the main point you want to make. After you have concluded the quotations from your articles, then present your own thoughts, followed by any relevant Scriptures.

Source

Link main words in your commentary to the article in question. If possible, put the source name for the articles at the bottom of your commentary. This is good practice, for it adds credibility to the commentary, and again there is the issue of copyright.

A right spirit

Try to keep a right spirit in your commentary. News relating to prophetic events isn't always particularly encouraging to read, and a negative attitude in commenting on news items can discourage the reader. To counter a negative article, you can focus on the positive by referring to the Scriptures, how that the Bible teaches all these things must come to pass and that the ultimate goal is the outworking of God's plan for this world.

Sectarianism

Sadly some of the websites that I visit on the internet have a "cultural spirit" that I believe is contrary to the Scriptures. This site is not about fighting a culture war with liberals or any other religious or political group. It isn't even necessarily about standing up for "religious freedoms" (John 16:7-8). When all has been said and done, culture will perish, but the Word of God will remain (Luke 21:33). The aim of this site is the glory of God, the proclamation of the Gospel, and the encouragement of believers. We do not hate homosexuals, Muslims, Catholics or any other people, we speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We do not exalt ourselves, our countries or our "denomination" over others, but we exalt the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Gospel

The book of Revelation states that the testimony of Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy (Revelation 19:10). All prophecy throughout the Scriptures centres on the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we should keep this in mind when commenting on end time events. Throughout the old testament, the prophets (Noah, Jonah, etc.) all prophesied of judgement that was to come upon the ungodly, but they also preached a message repentance and salvation. The Lord never judges a people without giving them opportunity to repent. If applicable to the article you are commenting on and if you feel led to, explain to the reader their need to have their sins forgiven, the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, and how they can escape the judgement of this world.

And please do submit commentaries, for many people may find encouragement and help through reading your thoughts.

US seeks Palestinian state within a year PDF Print E-mail

Del.icio.us!
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has stated that US President Bush hopes to see the vision of two states - Israel and Palestine - realized by the time he leaves office, in January of 2009. His comments come following a visit to Washington on Tuesday, made shortly after Hamas took military control of the Gaza Strip. Israeli and Palestinians officials are expected to meet with their Egyptian and Jordanian counterparts for a regional summit on Monday, in an attempt to strengthen Abbas' new Palestinian Authority government, and further isolating Hamas.

Quote: ""I'll be meeting with President Mubarak, King Abdullah and Abu Mazen on Monday, and together we'll try to create a fresh start for us and for the Palestinians," he said. "We'll have the hand of the US guiding us. President Bush wants to see the vision of a Palestinian state co-existing peacefully alongside Israel realized before he leaves his presidency. "The United States is Israel's dearest friend and is committed to our security... the visit to Washington has resulted, among other things, in increased US aid to Israel over the next ten years," added Olmert.

The US has promised to increase aid to Israel, and has lifted the economic embargo on the new Palestinian government. President Bush is also planning to send yet more weapons to Fatah, despite previous arms shipments destined for Abbas ending up in the hands of Hamas terrorists. During the takeover of Gaza, Hamas seized some 16 armoured personnel carriers,  rocket propelled grenades, ammunition, machine guns and mortars. The group also obtained intelligence information on Israel and the PA's dealings with other nations.

Quote: "Hamas has captured the intelligence files of the Palestinian Authority, which include evidence of significant cooperation with Israel, the United States and Arab countries. Hamas hauled away the files from the two leading security agencies under the control of PA President Mahmoud Abbas. "If these files are thorough, then Hamas will know just about every secret," a Palestinian security source told the Middle East Newsline. "That means, the requests of foreign nations, funding, meetings, joint operations, you name it." With the capture of Abbas's security headquarters, Hamas was believed to have obtained at least 14 years of intelligence files. Hamas will undoubtedly share these files with its chief allies, Iran and Syria.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit has already laid the blame of the Hamas' coup at the feet of the Iranian President. And with financial and logistical support for Hamas coming from both Teheran and Damascus, the Hamas victory in Gaza represents a significant step towards their ultimate goal - the destruction of the "Zionist regime". Hamas' strategy has proved extremely successful - daily rocket attacks against Israeli towns, pushing for democratic dominance in Gaza following disengagement, smuggling arms to gain strength militarily, and finally staging a coup to take ultimate control.

Quote: "Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit accused Iran of having encouraged Hamas to seize Gaza. "Iran's policies encouraged Hamas to do what it has done in Gaza and this represents a threat for Egypt's national security because Gaza is a stone's throw from Egypt," the minister said in comments carried by the Al-Masri Al-Yom newspaper. "The Iranian influence in Iraq also represents a threat for Egyptian and Arab national security. This obliges Cairo to restrict its relations with Tehran," he said.

All this leaves Israel in a perilous position. Israeli Prime Minister Olmert will not intervene to change the situation in Gaza. If he does so, he may at best be accused of destabilizing the peace process in the region, and at worst risking a regional war with Syria and Iran. The only option available to him is to leave Hamas "in power" in Gaza, and hope that the terrorist organization can be "contained" through international efforts. And we know, according to the Scriptures, what the end result of that will be.
