The former foreign minister of Finland, Erkki Tuomioja, has somewhat turned this 86% Lutheran country (don't ask about the born-again percentage) upside down with his recent statement, that the minds of children should not be poisoned with these Christian ideas. I trust so many of his previous voters, being sincere Christians, would have liked to hear this word a little bit earlier in Tuomioja's career. He has now publicly identified himself as an atheist. A pamphlet against Christianity from Richard Dawkins, "The God Delusion", has encouraged Tuomioja to step out from the closet (sorry, in Finnish only). Furthermore, there's also an additional character in this Mr. Tuomioja - an explicit mission against the Judeo-Christian Lord. Hearing this "warm message" of generations growing up their children in a "poisoning" way makes me breathless; and didn't we just get over another "poisoned case"? Nine people died in a school shooting near our capital. What made it all almost impossible to cope with was, when it became public, that two of my colleagues' families had been hit hard. One family lost their son there and another their mum. I wrote a short letter in our company's bulletin board - referring to a commentary in our known newspaper - not commenting on the seemingly justifiable ideas of that article, but in all, that the focus should be merely on criticizing that which was this unthinkable, horrible event's spine-chilling backcloth. For this sad and appalling work's background - and what the doer himself admits - nazi-darwinistic-superman ideology, and thus killing the weak, has to be condemned. On his website, the shooter has publicly announced his motives for the killing in Jokela. On his page the shooter shows himself being a steadfast evolutionist and being frustrated by the meaninglesness of his life - but applies his evolutionary philosophy in this shooting act, by eliminating the unfit individuals. Quote: "Life is just meaningless coincidence... a result of long evolutive development and a result of many reasons and elements. However, life is also that, what an individual wants to do with it. And I am my own life's dictator and god. And I have chosen my way. I have prepared to fight and die for my thoughts. Myself, as natural chooser, eliminating everybody, whom I see unfit, disgrace to mankind and an error of natural selection... You can ask yourself, why did I do this and what do I want. Well, most of you are too arrogant and mentally remote, to be able to understand ... Obviously you will say, that I'm "insane", "mad", "psychopate, "criminal" or comparable rubbish. No, the truth is, that I'm just an animal, human being, individual, dissenter." All this makes me so speechless. John Blanchard wrote about this particular "life philosophy's" insanity in the following words ("Where was God on Sept 11th"): "The Holocaust obviously raises huge questions for people who believe in God, but why should it cause any problem for atheists? If the British philosopher Bertrand Russell was right to dismiss man as ‘a curious accident in a backwater’, why should it matter in the least whether lives are ended slowly or suddenly, peacefully or painfully? If an atheist like the Oxford professor Peter Atkins is right in calling mankind ‘just a bit of slime on a planet’, why should we be remotely concerned at the systematic slaughter of six million Jews? Do we get traumatized when we see slime trodden on or shovelled down a drain? British anthropologist Sir Arthur Keith said that Hitler "consciously sought to make the practices of Germany conform to the theory of atheistic evolution". As all atheists are evolutionists, this is highly embarrassing for them, for evolution says that humankind is simply the result of countless chemical and biological accidents. If this is true, how can human beings have any personal value, and why should we turn a hair if any regime disposes of them by the million? The modern American author Henry Morris writes, "In the biological theory of Darwin, Hitler found his most powerful weapon against human values," while an Auschwitz survivor says that its gas chambers "were the ultimate consequence of the theory that man is nothing but the product of heredity and environment". Why should the Holocaust raise any ethical problems for the atheist? In a godless universe, what one ‘animal’ does to another ‘animal' is morally irrelevant — making it just as easy to commend the Holocaust as to condemn it. Although it caused appalling physical, mental and emotional pain and suffering, atheism has no way of declaring it to be radically wrong, for in the absence of absolute, transcendent ethics the word ‘wrong’ is meaningless. If we live in a world in which everything can be explained by physics, chemistry and biology, things we call ‘good’ and ‘evil’ are just impersonal, valueless data with no explanation. If there is no God, there is no universal moral law, and if there is no such law, nothing is essentially good or evil." Now, we have a senior politician telling us, "change your ways". But we have a "testimony" of a teenager showing us which that "new way" leads. In Jokela, his "own life's dictator and god" clearly made it known in which kind of "god" he believed: "Compared to you, backward masses, I am truly godlike". By the act of his conviction, he left to many a family memories ineradicable. That year Christmas didn't come for them. Instead came a present from Satan himself. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against this politician. The only political party I have ever belonged to is the Party of Golgotha and my political view is the message of the middle cross. And that "party programme" of mine tells me: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Prov. 22:6) That Way is the only Way. And it is the only Truth. And it is the only Life Eternal. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." (John 14:6) |

A director who shares the ideas of Iran's hardline president has produced what he says is the first film giving an Islamic view of Jesus Christ, in a bid to show the "common ground" between Muslims and Christians. Quotes: "By making this film I wanted to make a bridge between Christianity and Islam, to open the door for dialogue since there is much common ground between Islam and Christianity," he said. But in Talebzadeh's movie, God saves Jesus, depicted as a fair-complexioned man with long hair and a beard, from crucifixion and takes him straight to heaven. "It is frankly said in the Koran that the person who was crucified was not Jesus" but Judas, one of the 12 Apostles and the one the Bible holds betrayed Jesus to the Romans, he said. In his film, it is Judas who is crucified. Shiites believe the Mahdi's reappearance will usher in a new era of peace and harmony. "We Muslims pray for the 'Return' (of Imam Mahdi) and Jesus is part of the return and the end of time," Talebzadeh said. And I almost thought we had it all. But this new year's start faced another major Jesus- campaign: Oprah Winfrey (according to some assessments, the most influential woman in the world) will be letting out all the stops on her XM Satellite Radio program this coming year. Quote: This "Jesus" — who bears no doctrinal resemblance to the Bible’s Jesus Christ — began delivering his channeled teachings in 1965 to a Columbia University Professor of Medical Psychology by the name of Helen Schucman. One day Schucman heard an "inner voice" stating, "This is a course in miracles. Please take notes." For seven years she diligently took spiritual dictation from this inner voice that described himself as "Jesus." A Course in Miracles was quietly published in 1975 by the Foundation for Inner Peace. For many years "the Course" was an underground cult classic for New Age seekers who studied "the Course" individually, with friends, or in small study groups. Here are some quotes from the "Jesus" of this "A Course in Miracles" -session: * "There is no sin. . . " * A "slain Christ has no meaning." * "The journey to the cross should be the last ‘useless journey." * "Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross.’" * "The Name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol... It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray." (example: the gospel according to Oprah) * "God is in everything I see." * "The recognition of God is the recognition of yourself." * "The oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power." * "The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salvation."" So this, A Course in Miracles, is allegedly "new revelation" from "Jesus" to help humanity work through these troubled times. Uhh. What makes me wonder is, that the Bible telling of the miracles performed by the False Prophet, uses same original words when describing the miracles of the Lord and the Apostles. But the message will then be a little bit different, but obviously containing some kind of Jesus, too (2 Cor. 11:4). Isn't there a solemn message for the today's Charismatic people to ponder carefully. For, when signs and wonders are in question, the time of Tribulation will be some serious Satanic showdown! And in that light, this year-long brainwashing New Age session, "A Course in Miracles", speaks volumes, too. "Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous." (1 Joh. 3:7). "There is none good but one, that is, God" (Matt. 19:17). "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." (Jas. 4:8). Let Him save you. |

The church where the tradition of celebrating Christmas on December 25th may have begun was built near a pagan shrine as part of an effort to spread Christianity, a leading Italian scholar says. Jeremiah 10:2-5 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. |

By Michael Holden Reuters LONDON (Reuters) - Former prime minister Tony Blair has converted from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism, the head of Britain's Catholics said on Saturday. Blair whose wife and four children are Catholic, was received into the Catholic Church by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor on Friday in a move that had been widely expected after he stepped down from power in June. "I am very glad to welcome Tony Blair into the Catholic Church," Murphy-O'Connor said in a statement. "For a long time he has been a regular worshipper at Mass with his family and in recent months he has been following a programme of formation to prepare for his reception into full communion. "My prayers are with him, his wife and family at this joyful moment in their journey of faith together."Blair, now the Middle East peace envoy, had private talks with Pope Benedict at the Vatican in June and his conversion had been predicted. He has been receiving spiritual preparation for the conversion from Mark O'Toole, Murphy-O'Connor's private secretary. His spokesman declined to comment on the announcement, saying it was a private matter. Last month Blair, who was reticent about his faith during his 10 years in power, said religion was a serious matter for him. "You know if I am honest about it, yes of course it was hugely important," he said in a BBC documentary. "You know you can't have a religious faith and it be an insignificant aspect because it's, it's profound about you and about you as a human being." But he added that, while politicians could speak about religious faith in the United States, it was difficult to do so in Britain because "frankly people do think you are a nutter (crazy)". When once pressed in an interview about his beliefs, his then press spokesman Alastair Campbell famously interrupted and said: "We don't do God." Political commentators have also suggested Blair had been unwilling to make the move while he was still in power because some lawyers believed that 19th century laws could actually prevent a Catholic from becoming prime minister. It was also thought a conversion could have provoked a conflict with his role in appointing Anglican bishops and he might have also felt the need to tread carefully while mediating in the Northern Ireland peace process between the province's Catholic and Protestant communities. European Union Trade Commissioner and close political confidant Peter Mandelson said Blair was "not an exhibitionist" about religion but it was very important to him deep inside. "This is a man who takes a Bible with him wherever he goes and last thing at night he will read from the Bible," Mandelson said. |

Not specifically related to any news event, but this article appeared on Reuters today. Around thirty to forty tourists per year suffer from an unusual complex that has become known as "Jerusalem syndrome", in which people are said to have either had a vision of the Messiah while visiting the Holy City, or act out one of the characters mentioned in the Scriptures. That's according to Dr. Gregory Katz, the head of the emergency unity in the Givat Shaul Mental Health Centre. Psychiatrists disagree on whether or not the phenomenon is strictly confined to the city of Jerusalem. Most cases usually have some form of psychiatric disorder in their past, and seeing the city of Jerusalem tends to excite their irrational behaviour. But some appear to have no previous mental illness, and in these cases, the cause of their disturbance it put down to "Jerusalem Syndrome". Quote: "Katz described the syndrome's progression in an article published in the British Journal of Psychiatry in 2000. It starts with agitation and an urge to visit the city alone and ends with the need to don a toga and deliver a sermon at a holy place. He described a 35-year-old woman from a Christian tour group who, after three or four days without sleep, believed she was the Virgin Mary. The woman walked out of her hotel room dressed in a white sheet and began preaching about not committing sins. The episode lasts a few days, after which the person usually does not remember what happened, Katz said. I was going to comment on one such instance in a previous article, in which a former British MI5 agent claimed to be the Messiah. I had written a lengthily article on it, but in the end I deleted it. I couldn't bring myself to finish it, because what the man was saying was so blasphemous, something inside me just couldn't bear to dwell on it. I guess that was the Holy Spirit. The Lord said that before He would return, there would arise false messiahs who would deceive many. It is no surprise then that people who have a "religious experience" could be indwelt by demonic powers and claim to be God or have seen visions of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sadly many of our own so-called evangelical leaders have claimed to have either seen Jesus Christ or God, and some have even predicted His appearance at their meetings. I needn't mention names. This is false teaching, and perhaps even demonic in origin. After His resurrection, the Bible states that Jesus Christ ascended bodily into heaven. He is now seated on the right hand of the Father (1st Peter 3:22). The angels who stood by the apostles at His ascension said, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven", Acts 1:11. When Jesus Christ revealed Himself to the apostle Paul on the Damascus road, Paul records that He saw a light and heard a voice speaking out of heaven (Acts 9:3). The martyr Stephen also had a vision of Jesus Christ standing at the right hand of God in heaven. Acts 7:55-56 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. And the apostle John had a vision of Jesus Christ, and again in heaven (Revelation 1:13). As far as I know, there is no place in the Scriptures where Jesus Christ appeared to anyone on earth after His ascension into heaven. The Bible does state that when we gather together in the Lord's name, He is there in the midst of us (Matthew 18:30), for the Lord Jesus Christ is God and can be present among us even though we may not see Him. But I don't see why Jesus Christ would appear physically on this earth prior to His coming to the air for His saints (1st Thessalonians 4:16-17). There is no doubt, the events we are witnessing today, with people claiming to be Jesus Christ or another messiah, are a proof that we are indeed living in the last days. Luke 21:8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. Source Reuters |
