As some of you may be aware, my auntie Pamela and uncle Desi Fisher have started up an organization called Adventure Leadership Training. I helped them to create a website. ALT is a Christian charity based in Northern Ireland which aims to build teamwork and leadership qualities in an environment people can enjoy. ALT has been donated a four acre plot of land in the heart of the Mourne Mountains, on which we are planning to build a facility that can be used by the local community for a drop-in centre, respite care for broken families, and as a base for Christian groups on activity weekends. I have uploaded a video of the planned development on YouTube, which was created by the BBC during the filming for the "Born Again" documentary.

Hi All,

And greetings once again from Johannesburg, from where this will hopefully, God willing, be my last update.
My orthopod Doctor has given me the go ahead to fly home at the end of next week!    That does not mean that I go home home, it means I go to a hospital somewhere and have bed rest for another week before I can get up and start walking.

However, I have reached the "halfway mark" now - (3 weeks and 6 days) of lying in bed 24 hours a day.    I didn't think I'd manage but so far so good.    And I don't really have much choice - in fact, any choice.

I will probably be the only person to ever come to Jo'burg for 5 weeks and never stand on the ground, which is quite an achievement, I think!

Anyway I am feeling very well now - not much pain and apart from having 4kg weights on my leg, I'm not doing too bad.

I have had an amazing team of people looking after me, and I cannot praise them highly enough.    I have had 7 doctors looking after me and  4 of them visit every day.    The nurses are excellent and I'm being well cared for.    Mum is also fine, both of us being encouraged and supported by the local Christians we have met.

The days are quite long since they wake me at 4am to take blood, then we get tea at 04h30.    I have a lovely bed "neighbour" Pat, who keeps my sanity, and we can enjoy some laughs despite it all.     Every day I ask God to give me the strength to manage another day and He has not failed me!    Lying flat on my back is not an easy thing for me to do - in fact it is the hardest thing I think I have ever done, but I ask myself, what is God teaching me from this?   Certainly patience and long suffering come to mind!    No doubt His plan will come to be seen.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has sent me cards, e-mails, even flowers (thank you Neil & Dawn) - I have been overwhelmed by the love and kindness of so many.    I know God will bless you all!

I'll be in touch again when I reach N.I. God willing, but in the meantime I'll sign off.    Thanks to all who have prayed and continue to pray for me.     It is only prayer that has helped me through and I am grateful to the Lord for sparing my life.    I am truly grateful to you as I know much prayer has gone up on my behalf.

May God bless each one of you.
Much love in Him,
Helen

I received this update on my friend Helen from her sister, regarding her physical condition following her car accident in Kalene, Zambia. Praise God that she is doing well, and will be coming home soon. Thank you to all who prayed for her, your prayers have been answered.

Hi Chris

I spoke to mum on Thursday evening. Everything is going very well with Helen. She is hoping to be home by next weekend (i.e. this one coming). The hip operation went very well and they just want to come home now, although everyone in Johannesburg has been lovely and they've been really well looked after. I expect it was rather jolly on Saturday after S.Africa won the rugby....! I will ring them again later this week but unless anything else goes wrong they should be returning as soon as they can get on a flight.

Hope this helps

Lorraine

Good morning, everyone!

Just an update.

We are still safe in this neighborhood area.  Woke up to a massive smoke bank to the east of us so I snapped several photos.  It was very scary seeing it so close....and I have pictures!

Numerous other evacuations have taken place and every single site available has taken people.
We have the Del Mar Fair Grounds...full of horses and can't take any more of the large animals but more room for people/pets.  Qualcom Stadium is still taking evacuees.  Many sites are full up.  Churches have opened up their doors.  More evacuations called this morning.  Over 250,000 people so far and hundreds of homes burned to the ground.  Over 100,000 acres have burned.  It seems impossible because the fires in 03 seemed to have burned the entire county!
This time, the fires came to town.  It's much worse than the fire of '03  but as far as we know only one person has died this time.  It wasn't so in '03.

People have been lining up in long lines to donate and come help.  As usual they have done what San Diego does.  This city is amazing in a crisis.  People are very thoughtful and very generous.
Everything you can think of has been coming in.  Families loading up their cars with supplies and dropping them off at the Stadium.  Most of the city is closed and businesses are closed.
Roads are closed.

It's almost bizarre to be watching tile, ceramic and fire rated roofs burning!  They aren't supposed to but they are!

Continue to pray for fire victims here.  Their stress is deep and it's going to be a long time before things change for them.  Houses are so expensive here and the losses are almost too much to imagine!

Will keep you posted.  Thank you for getting into the prayer of agreement!  You are much appreciated and much loved!

God bless each of you, sustain you and keep His hedge of protection around you from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet!

Love,
Kathie

I have uploaded the audio for a Gospel meeting we had in our assembly last Sunday night. The speaker is Jim Scott, and the subject is the pool of Bethesda. These audio files are in 4.3 and 4.7 megabytes in size, and are in 32k MP3 format. If you have trouble playing this media format on your computer, download the free audio program Audacity. You can download the audio files here (file 1, file 2).
