So far around half a million people have been given mandatory evacuation orders, but it is believed that the wildfires in California have caused around one million people to flee their homes. It has become the biggest mass evacuation in the US since August 2005, in which hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee their homes after Hurricane Katrina flooded New Orleans. Six hundred square miles of land has been burned up and thousands of properties have been destroyed. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has asked President Bush to upgrade the event to a "major disaster" to allow more federal aid to reach the state. Quote: "The fires also forced the evacuation of more than 350,000 houses, most of them in San Diego County. With the area's average household size of 2.6 people, that means the evacuation could encompass nearly 910,000 people. "It's basically a mass migration here in San Diego County. The numbers we’re seeing are staggering," said Luis Monteagudo, a spokesman for the county's emergency effort. President Bush, who plans to visit the region Thursday, declared a federal emergency for seven counties, a move that will speed disaster-relief efforts, White House press secretary Dana Perino said. Knowing the Scriptures that whoever touches Israel touches the apple of God's eye (Zechariah 2:8), and whoever curses Israel is cursed of God (Genesis 12:3), I can't help wondering about the United States and its present involvement in the Middle East peace process in relation to this latest disaster. I believe that the Hurricane Katrina disaster was allowed by God following US involvement in the disengagement from Gaza. These fires in California began Sunday, the same day US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Israel to discuss the upcoming peace conference to be held in Annapolis, Maryland. On Monday Condoleezza told journalists, "it is time for the establishment of a Palestinian state". Is it possible these fires are a warning to the US from God not to be involved in the dividing of His land? Zechariah 12:9 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Source MSNBC, Haaretz |

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency as dozens of wildfires sweep across seven counties of California. The ground has been left tinder-dry following a record-breaking heat wave in July, and the flames are being fanned by strong winds. At least one person has died and dozens have been injured as a result of the fires, and thousands more are being evacuated from their homes. The fires have destroyed around 35,000 acres of land, and 1500 fire-fighters have been called in to tackle the blaze. Quote: "All 36,000 residents of Ramona, north-east of San Diego, were ordered to leave their homes as another blaze razed more than 5,000 acres (2,000 hectares), said San Diego sheriff's office spokesman Phillip Brust. "I can't ever remember doing this," Mr Brust said. "This fire is crazy." In seaside Malibu, several buildings were destroyed and thousands of local residents evacuated as flames swept across the hills overlooking the ocean. My dear friend in California had a close brush with wildfires near her home not so long ago. Praise God that she was preserved, although this recent news concerns me. Only a few months ago Greece declared a national emergency as wildfires spread across the country. Help had to be brought in from Europe and further afield. The cause of many of the Greek fires might have been arson, but the drought conditions resulted in the situation getting out of hand. Revelation 8:7 states that during the tribulation period, around one third of the earth's vegetation will be burned up, and the cause will be hail and fire mingled with blood cast upon the earth. The record heatwaves across Europe and the US in the earlier part of this year have proven that this apocalyptic scenario is entirely possible. Exodus 9:23-25 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that [was] in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field. This from my friend Kathie... I am asking all of you to join me in praying for relief from the fires here in San Diego. They are moving into various area of the city now after burning vast portions of the country areas. Evacuations of entire communities are taking place and we have a number of friends among those who have had to leave their homes. The Qualcom Stadium is one of many sites taking in evacuees. Smoke is thick in the air all over the county. We are in a record low humidity and high wind advisory situation and the winds are blowing the fires with winds 60 mph. and higher. There have been at least one death and numerous fire-related injuries. There is some cool, moist weather over the ocean up north.... we should pray for the weather change to come quickly and bring moist air or better yet, some rain. Keep praying! Source BBC |

Former US Vice President Al Gore is to receive the Nobel peace prize today for his efforts to educate the public on the issue global warming. It seems Al Gore has now become the public face of the global warming campaign, following his recent video production on the phenomenon entitled, "An Inconvenient Truth". He is to share the award - which includes a cash prize of some $1.5 million, with the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Al Gore was praised by the Nobel prize winners group as having done more to highlight the issue of global warming that any other person... Quote: ""His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change," the citation said. "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted." Al Gore may be talking more about global warming than anyone else on the planet, but his extravagant lifestyle is also contributing more to global warming than anyone else on the planet. According to this news article, Al Gore burned as much kilowatt hours of electricity in the month of August than the average American family burns in two years. Other affluent people that have championed the global warming cause whilst directly contributing to its effects include many pop-stars who travelled the world in private jets, preaching to people how we need to cut down on our CO2 emissions. But Al Gore's video production which is being sent to schools across the United States and the United Kingdom will face a hard sell in Britain following a recent judicial ruling which branded it politically partisan. Quote: "In what is a rare judicial ruling on what children can see in the class-room, Mr Justice Barton was at pains to point out that the "apocalyptic vision" presented in the film was politically partisan and not an impartial analysis of the science of climate change. "It is plainly, as witnessed by the fact that it received an Oscar this year for best documentary film, a powerful, dramatically presented and highly professionally produced film," he said in his ruling. "It is built around the charismatic presence of the ex-Vice-President, Al Gore, whose crusade it now is to persuade the world of the dangers of climate change caused by global warming. "It is now common ground that it is not simply a science film - although it is clear that it is based substantially on scientific research and opinion – but that it is a political film." The judge also found nine distinct errors made in the video presented by Gore as evidence for climate change, although he agreed that global warming was a problem that needed to be addressed. The head of Creation Research John Mackay announced on Revelation TV on Wednesday night that his organization has produced a video on climate change from a Biblical perspective, entitled A Really Inconvenient Truth. John Mackay said he believed the real reason why Al Gore was presented with a Nobel peace prize for his video is because he is pushing a globalist response to what is being portrayed as a global problem. If politicians can present global warming as a imminent threat to every nation on earth, the next stage will be to set up a global authority to address the issue. Politicians need some sort of external crisis in order for people to agree to a one world government, and two of these seem to have afflicted the world of late, global warming and global terrorism. Perhaps through the Divine judgements of Revelation, combined with the wars in the Middle East, the people of the world will only be too glad to hand over their sovereignty to a world leader. Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. A series of freak tornadoes swept through parts of the United Kingdom today, lifting the roofs off houses, overturning caravans and causing much damage to property. Nine storms were reported by the MET Office, at least five of which were full blown tornadoes. The September weather has been generally dry and sunny this year, although somewhat windy over the last few days. But residents in Northampton, Luton, Breaston, Farnborough, Hants, and Nuneaton were taken by surprise by the freak weather. Some reported the sky turning blacking, followed by gales of up to 60mph which lasted for just a few minutes... Quote: "Terence Meaden, Deputy Head of the UK's Tornado and Storm Research Organisation, said the storms were "quite a big event", second only to those of last December when Britain was hit by at least 12 tornadoes across the country. "Some of the places definitely had tornadoes because they were seen -- I would say that we have nine events which could be tornadoes and some of them certainly were," Meaden told BBC Television. It seems the freak weather Britain is experiencing is becoming all too common. The city of Manchester has been hit by around six earthquakes in the month of August. The first six months of this year saw Britain's most costliest natural disaster, with torrential rains causing over £6 billion worth of damage. And two tornadoes struck British town centres at the beginning of Israel's disengagement from Gaza within the space of one week. The UK is hit by around 30 tornadoes per year, but most are formed out at sea or in remote areas. Tornadoes hitting town centres seems to be a relatively recent development, at least as far as I can remember. As the Bible states in Hosea 8:7, those that sow to the wind will reap the whirlwind. Our national sins are causing the Lord to remove his hand of protection upon this nation, and I believe we can only expect more adverse problems. When I think of this sinful nation, it depresses me. But I like to think that the Church of God, the whole company of believers in Jesus Christ, are a righteous nation, a nation of priests, holy unto the Lord. One day this nation of believers will be caught up into God's heaven, where our eyes shall behold the King in His beauty. Are you part of this righteous nation? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Trust in Jesus Christ for salvation today. Isaiah 26:2 Open ye the gates, that the righteous nation which keepeth the truth may enter in. Source Reuters |
