British police have tonight foiled a terror plot aimed at causing carnage in the centre of London, just days after Prime Minister Gordon Brown took the reigns of government. The police were alerted by an ambulance crew to a suspicious vehicle parked outside a nightclub. Ambulance workers had spotted what looked like smoke coming from the car, which was discovered to be heavily laden with petrol, propane gas tanks and nails. The police were able to diffuse the bomb, which could have caused massive loss of life, had it been detonated. A second car parked nearby was also discovered to contain similar materials. Police do not know who is behind the plot, stating there had been no intelligence that an attack was being carried out. But some news organizations have discovered that the United Kingdom's recent knighthood of Salmon Rushdie, who authored the Satanic Verses, may be the reason for today's developments. Quote: "Hours before London explosives technicians dismantled a large car bomb in the heart of the British capital's tourist-rich theater district, a message appeared on one of the most widely used jihadist Internet forums, saying: "Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed." CBS News found the posting, which went on for nearly 300 words, on the "al Hesbah" chat room. It was left by a person who goes by the name abu Osama al-Hazeen, who appears regularly on the forum. The comment was posted on the forum, according to time stamp, at 08:09 a.m. British time on June 28 -- about 17 hours before the bomb was found early on June 29. My own immediate thoughts upon hearing this news was, that it may have been a warning to the new British Prime Minister not to interfere in the Middle East. When the last London bombing was carried out, the reason the terrorists gave for their actions were British and US support for Israel. I don't have the link for this, but I remember the former Prime Minister Tony Blair saying that Britain would not be deterred by this in its support for Israel, and I was encouraged by his stance on this issue.
